| UPDATE February 2008 |
Finally two years of planning and hard work have paid off— The Wisdom Way Solar Village broke ground on January 29th. On a cold, winter morning Larry LaClaire of L & F Construction brought his heavy equipment to begin excavation. Apparently in New England solar villages start with digging in the snow!! | January was a great month all around. Early in the month we learned that RDI was awarded over $2 million in funding for the Solar Village! We received $1.89 million in loans from the state of Massachusetts, $575,000 for construction funds in loans from the Housing Assistance Council, a $10,000 grant from the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation, and $397,600 from the US Department of Energy. The Housing Assistance Council is a non-profit corporation headquartered in Washington DC that helps local organizations build affordable homes in rural communities. The TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation provides grants for non-profits to create meaningful change and improvement in our communities. | ![]() Click for details of landscape plan ![]() Click for drawing, model, and floorplans for a typical 2 bed / 3 bed WWSV duplex |

| TD Banknorth’s $10,000 contribution will help us get started with a documentary film of the Wisdom Way Solar Village project. Local documentary filmmakers Carlyn Saltman of EarthThrives.com and YourStoryMatters.com, and Catherine Stryker of Amherst, MA, will chronicle the story of the Solar Village and its sustainable building practices. The project has already begun with the filming of a site visit by potential Solar Village homebuyers. | ||
